SUSTAINABILITY

KNOW-WOOD-HOW WHICH PROTECTS THE PLANET

IMAGINA

Wood you imagine a covering with zero waste?
Wood you imagine a round table?
Wood you imagine a building which has a positive impact on the community?
Wood you imagine an environment with natural resources and energy efficiency?

Complete carpentry in which everything, from the raw material at the factory and the products, considers sustainability and the future. We believe that change must be inspired and we want to lead by setting an example. This is why we also focus on developing products which are more recyclable, more energy-efficient and which have less impact. That is how we at JJT think.

COMMITMENT

TO A BETTER ENVIRONMENT

ZERO WASTE

We use all waste wood – for heating up the factory boiler, producing pellets and briquettes and reusing material for new products. Also, 27% of our energy production comes from the solar panels which we have installed at the factory.

CIRCULARITY

We are embarking on a tree planting scheme to minimise our impact. We make calculations to gauge quantity of wood and our impact on the environment and compensate for the impact on the environment by replanting trees across the nation.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN

We know that wood is a scarce material, so we promote respect for our primary raw material in all processes. JJT is a PEFC (PEFC/13-31-091) and FSC® certified company; we also hold NP EN ISO 14001 environmental management system certification, helping our clients to obtain high level sustainability certification.

TO MORE POSITIVE IMPACT ON PEOPLE

In real carpentry, people are key. Especially because they are our family. We create a positive environment for anyone on whom we depend and who depend on us, with fair pay, recognition and acknowledgement. We work as a team and believe in honest, open and reciprocal relations.

TO HEALTHY AND SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS

We are determined to combine economic growth with reduction in our environmental impact. We guarantee robust, solid economy to minimise our energy consumption, promote recycling and reuse and make technological changes to our production equipment.

RAW MATERIALS

OUR PASSION IS WOOD-FAIR

Wood is our real passion: it is part of our heritage and we want it to play a role in everyone’s future. It is a durable, renewable and recyclable material. Because it is a natural resource, so vital to the planet, we know that we need to protect it and ensure its circularity and regeneration. We take this mission very seriously, with rules and commitments which we will maintain, come what may.

WOOD FROM SUSTAINABLY-MANAGED FORESTS

As we manufacture our carpentry solutions, we ensure that we use wood and derivatives which hold FSC® certification, a seal which proves that they came from sustainably-managed forests. The wood which we use most is native pine, considered a low-risk raw material, which comes from a controlled source nearby and with less environmental impact.

RESPONSIBLY TRADED WOOD

We do not use illegally-harvested wood.
We do not use wood harvested in breach of human or civil rights.
We do not use wood from threatened forests.
We do not use wood from forests of genetically-modified trees.

POLICIES AND MEASUREMENTS

A CONSCIOUS WOOD EXPERTISE

As far as we are concerned, nothing else is as beautiful as wood. So, we know that our excellent raw material has been forming for decades and we want to be sure that we can reuse it and use it responsibly. We always give our clients alternatives which harmonise design and versatility, considering the product’s life cycle.

PLYWOOD

Plywood solutions are an alternative to traditional massif. Eco-efficient, they combine stability, strength and durability, obtained according to the construction method, with implicit benefits from the profitability of the hardwoods used, as well as recycling and the benefits of the supporting woods.

FINGER JOINT

A form of recycling which enables woods of different dimensions to be used, ensuring solutions different to traditional ones which call upon design without neglecting the structural nature.

REFLORESTATION

In 2022, we will be embarking on reforestation to make up for our CO2 footprint, by replanting trees nationwide, in partnership with the Associação Plantar uma Árvore:

RECYCLING

Production layout is thought out to guarantee minimum impact on the environment: waste wood is processed and recycled with two things in mind: we use it to supply heat energy to some manufacturing infrastructures and use it for producing briquettes or pellets.

As well as rationalising the raw material and recycling waste wood, other environmental indicators are involved, such as:
– Photovoltaic intensity, or rather, the ratio between solar energy production and electrical energy consumption, which we have kept in the last two years at 30%;
– Consumption of water in relation to quantity produced, which over the same period is about 13 l/m2. To reduce water consumption, partial meters have been installed and it is therefore possible to analyse excess water consumption which takes place in good time.
